Le Comité de Gestion du Fonds, hébergé par la Fondation Roi Baudouin, va bientôt vous proposer un dernier grand projet durable, à savoir le soutien des activités de vulgarisation de l’Association Egyptologique Reine Elisabeth (www.aere-egke.be).
Comme vous le savez, cette association a été créée par Jean Capart en 1923 avec le patronage de la Reine Elisabeth, peu après l’ouverture de la tombe de Toutankhamon. Pendant 100 ans elle a enrichi une bibliothèque égyptologique très importante, édité une revue de renommée internationale (Chronique d’Egypte), publié de nombreux ouvrages et organisé visites et conférences. Elle a pour vocation de rassembler tous ceux qui s’intéressent à l’égyptologie en Belgique. Sa gouvernance comprend des égyptologues belges représentatifs de toutes les organisations actives dans ce domaine.
L’AERE souhaite développer davantage la vulgarisation de ses connaissances et de ses travaux en égyptologie, mais manque de moyens. Un programme est en cours d’élaboration qui comprendra de nouvelles initiatives, conférences, visites guidées des collections, publications, etc. Quel meilleur objectif pour le Fonds Jean Capart que de soutenir cette initiative pour poursuivre son but : faire comprendre et aimer l’Egypte.
Les modalités sont en cours d’élaboration entre l’AERE et le FJC. Elles vous seront communiquées début 2024.

Almost a century ago, on February 18, 1923, the official inauguration of the Burial Chamber of Pharaoh Tutankhamun took place in Egypt, in the Valley of the Kings. This event, which received worldwide media coverage, had a particular resonance in Belgium since it was Queen Elisabeth who had the honour of presiding over the ceremony. For this occasion, King Albert I’s wife was accompanied by her son, Prince Leopold (the future King Leopold III), and Jean Capart, the founder of Belgian Egyptology. How did this momentous journey proceed? What were its repercussions for Belgian Egyptology? Under what circumstances was the Fondation Egyptologique Reine Elisabeth created? Why was Brussels considered the world capital of Egyptology during the interwar period? And finally: Why was a Jean Capart Fund created recently? Jean-Michel Bruffaerts will answer all of these questions. Accompanied by Her Royal Highness Princess Esmeralda of Belgium, granddaughter of Queen Elisabeth and Honorary President of the Jean Capart Fund, he will present photographs and documents, many of them still unpublished, mostly from the official and private archives of the Royal Family of Belgium.
